Description: Amethyst seal from the reign of Ardashir I (AD 224-241), from Georgia, in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg. The seal of a female bust, with the head turned to the right (on the impression), with the hair shown in tresses over the shoulders, and collected in a ball of hair, tied with a ribbon over a skull cap. The Pahlavi inscription identifies the seals owner and the image depicted as Denak, “queen of queens,” the sister and wife of Ardashir I.
