These posters reflect ancient cultures up through the present in terms of inheritance of ancestors who have given a sense of place to the society of Taiwan. The purpose is to inspire and instruct more about the beauty of the indigenous cultures in Taiwan.

In 2006, the Shung Ye Museum launched the first "Indigenous Poster Design Competition of Taiwan Students" with assistance from the Taiwan Poster Design Association. The second competition was held in 2008. The posters in this exhibit represent the third competition which was held from September through November 2009. The Museum encourages students from design-related studies of universities and colleges in Taiwan.

From the first competition, the number of participating students increased from over 1,460 students to almost 3,000 students in the third. They represent departments of graphic design from over 90 universities and colleges in Taiwan.

These posters are displayed in traveling exhibits at galleries, indigenous community centers and museums throughout Taiwan.
