Abstract

The ECAI Sanskrit Working Group (ESWG) was formed Spring 2008 and charged with taking steps to increase the quantity, uniformity, utility, and longevity of Sanskrit Buddhist texts on the Web.  In partial fulfillment of its charge the Group has elected to design and implement a test bed for developing standards, tools, and technologies for the storage, retrieval, study, and analysis of Sanskrit Buddhist texts.

The functional specification for the test bed includes the following: texts delivered in a form or forms useful to an international audience for a variety of purposes; tools provided for locating and discovering texts based on information about and within the texts; integrated access to dictionaries and commentaries; integrated access to images of print or manuscript originals; potential for participation in a network of document repositories (in Sanskrit and other languages); and potential for use in one or more ECAI projects.

In this presentation I will discuss and demonstrate what has been accomplished to date, focusing on the Group's standards and system design decisions.
