Abstract

Taiwanese Buddhism has played an important role in the more than 300 years of history, but there are not many studies or reports in this field of studies. We try to utilize the Geography Information System (GIS) technology and related culture records in the development of Taiwanese Buddhist Digital Database. This Database will collect the materials relating to the historical and present circumstances of Buddhism in Taiwan, including geography information of temple and monastery, historical documents, multimedia resources, etc.

Our Database has three main contains: 1. Geography Information System of Taiwan Buddhist temple and monastery. 2. Historical texts and bibliography in Taiwan Buddhism from the Zheng/Ming period, the Japanese Colonial period to the present day. 3. Culture inspection record, includes photo pictures and 3D temple model.

In the future, we hope to integrate the website of “Taiwan Buddhism texts Database”and “Digital Museum of Buddhism in Taiwan”. Then, establish and structure a research platform of Taiwan Buddhism, to provide geography and historical information in the advanced research of Taiwan Buddhism.
