ECAI Workshop on Cultural Atlas Development
9 - 10:30am – Current Cultural Atlas Projects
Workshop participants will be encouraged to present their recent developments and plans; giving short summaries and updates on a wide range of Cultural Atlases currently under development.
11am - 3pm – Development Issues
Discussion of a number of issues facing groups developing more complex Cultural Atlases and Digital Humanities Systems. Short introductions to some of the issues will be presented then opened for discussion. Focus issues will include:
- Dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity in development of complex visualizations and interfaces
- Using a diversity of digital data and media in integrated systems
- Incorporating Computational Humanities – including multiple text analysis methods
- The roles of 3D / Immersive technology and potentials for integration and analysis
3:30 - 5pm – Project Development Planning
Participants will have an opportunity to discuss challenges and work on project planning. Groups will be working on clarifying future project plans, discussing technical options, and developing collaborative prospectuses. Some of the projects being developed include: Maritime Buddhism, Atlas of Islam in Asia, Religious Atlas of Mongolia, and religious atlases more broadly as well as groups working on advanced visualizations for cultural atlases and computational humanities.
