Initiating a Sustainable Ethnographic Cultural Atlas from the Grassroots

Abstract

This paper concerns the digital geographic information systems (GIS) based language and culture atlases from interaction and training with students for establishing a viable Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative (ECAI) resource center in the region on Taiwan and the Philippines. Presently indigenous peoples are learning to utilize ECAI concepts to facilitate their ethnographic present as a base to explore their heritage. The growing community interest and digital capabilities are placing cultural resource management techniques in the hands of local people who are interconnecting with others working likewise in the world.
