GEOCODE: Source for determining the geographic coordinates X and Y. ACASIAN

PPLACE or ArcChina PPLACE, for example would indicate I used ACASIAN datasets or ArcChina datasets, respectively, and the location of the populated place containing the diocese to determine its geocode. GPS indicates this was done with a handheld GPS receiver. ADL PPLACE indicates that I used the Alexandria Digital Library Gazetteer Server and the name of the populated place associated with the diocese to determine its location. Verellen or O'Jack indicates that the geocode was estimated by either you or myself through other more subjective means.

CERTAINTY: This attribute indicates the level of certainty for the Geocode on scale of 1-4: 1 being most certain (geocode based on GPS coordinate data); 2 being fairly certain (geocode based on center point of populated place known to be associated with the location of the diocese), 3 being somewhat uncertain (geocode estimated using various resources such as textual descriptions, digital elevation models, and cartographic tools for measuring distance from a known point); 4 being uncertain (geocode either unknown because of inadequate historical sources or determined using only a representative point for a known larger administrative unit. For example, the county is given and the administrative seat of the county is used for the geocode, even though it is not necessarily the location of the diocese).

LEGEND2: Legends associated with the diocese continued

FEATURE: Physical features associated with the diocese

Most tend to concern geocoding, where ACASIAN means the Australian Centre for Asian Spatial Information and Analysis Network, ArcChina means the GIS product produced by ESRI called the Digital Map Database of China, ADL means the Alexandria Digital Library Gazetteer Server, GTGN means the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, and ZGDML means the Zhongguo diming lu.
